Kimberlie Birks
Kim is a freelance writer and Program Coordinator for Deepak HomeBase, a conversational platform headed by Deepak Chopra at abc carpet & home in New York City. Born in Canada, she split her childhood between Montreal and Minneapolis before obtaining her BA in Art History from Brown University. Kim has had the privilege of assisting Holly Brubach in the creative direction of a Canadian fine jewelry brand, as well as spending time in the curatorial department at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and at Les Commissaires, a design gallery in Montreal. Her writing has appeared in DomusWeb, Canadian Art and Abitare.
Kim’s interest in design grew out of a longtime love of travel and of the ways in which it rekindles our child-like excitement in the world around us. Through her thesis, Recreate: New Grounds for New York’s Playgrounds, Kim found a way to channel her kiddy curiosity closer to home, exchanging the jet set for the swing set. Arguing that New York should lead the country towards a paradigm shift in playground design, Kim has enjoyed the opportunity to set her soapbox in the local sandbox. She dreams of one day finding a way to combine her love of travel, design and critical writing into one killer cocktail of a career.
